Bradford is well known for it’s delicious curry and why shouldn’t it, after all it has won the Curry Capital title six times in a row. But who is the best of the best?
Now in it’s second year the great British public get to decide who deserves Bradford’s very prestigious curry AWARD!
In the 1960s and 1970s, after the demise of the British empire, Britain saw an influx of Indian and Pakistani communities, many of which settled in industrial centres such as Birmingham and Bradford. The majority of immigrants who came were men and most ended up working in the mills. Whilst working in the mills, Kashmiri and Indian men emigrating to Bradford around this time weren’t used to cooking, and there were no Pakistani or Indian restaurants around.
It was then that restaurants such as The Sweet Centre and Karachi established to serve the demand for South Asian cuisine from Britain’s new immigrants. Both restaurants are still trading today, and the city now boasts of more than 200 establishments serving some of the best and award winning South Asian cuisine in Bradford District.
Bradford also boasts of winning the Curry Capital award six years in a row, a feat that no other city can take credit for. We really do have the very best!
So isn’t it time we showed off Bradford’s pride by celebrating, profiling and praising the industry dedicated to serving up our most gratifying cuisine?
In recognition of this a prestigious annual awards night celebrating Bradford’s vibrant Asian culture and
the culinary craftsmanship that goes into making Bradford, Britain’s curry capital, one of the UK’s most treasured curry destinations has been established.
The awards will aim to celebrate this rich heritage, highlighting the finest examples of South Asian cuisine and praising the industry dedicated to serving up our most gratifying menu.
From recognising the best restaurants, to the best service, we will also aim to recognise the people who work hard behind the scenes, such as the chefs and managers, who ensure we are served with the most amazing pallette of food.
The Awards will also be used as a platform to lobby for the industry and to inspire and nurture future talent.
The inaugural awards will be host to an entertaining evening of music, inspirational speakers, comedy and above all great food in a buzzing ambiance of business leaders, politicians, members of the community and above all the creme de la creme of Bradford’s curry industry.
We hope you will join us in celebrating the very best of Bradford’s Curry industry!
